Our family would like to acknowledge the recent passing of our mother, aunt, and sister Tina Marie Nielsen. After a short stay in Palliative Care at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, Tina passed away from complications of her cancer on the evening of September 18th, at the age of 67. Tina is predeceased by her parents Doreen and Victor Ball and her elder sister Denise Ball.

Legally named Diane, from a very young age her grandmother began calling her Tina, which quickly became the name that everyone knew her by, right up to the end of life. She was born in Walsall England in June of 1955. As a small child she immigrated to Canada with her parents and elder sister Denise, making their way across the country by train until reaching the little hamlet of Cedar, BC. 

While Tina did move up north for a short time in her later teenage years, the majority of her life has been spent on Vancouver Island. After her marriage to Bryan Nielsen in 1979, they purchased a home in Ladysmith BC and Tina lived in the community from then on. Tina was involved in number of community groups within Ladysmith over the years and spent many hours assisting in classrooms when her children were young. As her children grew up, Tina took a job with Pharmasave (later turned Rexall) and had been with Rexall in various stored for over 20 years at the time of her passing. Always willing to lend a hand Tina was there for friends and family time and time again and will be missed by many.

Tina leaves behind her children Aaron Nielsen and Kirsten (Cristopher) Evenden, her sister Lesley, brothers John and Tony and all their spouses, children and extended family. The family extends our thanks and gratitude to the palliative care team at NRGH who provided such excellent care for Tina in her final days.

While there will be no formal memorial at Tina's request, a small service of interment will occur at the Ladysmith Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society to further benefit their research
