Thomas Francis Obituary

In Loving Memory of Thomas Young Francis March 29, 1947 – February 27, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas "Tom" Young Francis on February 27, 2026, at Nanaimo Hospital following a lengthy illness. A long-term resident of Ladysmith, Tom was a well-known figure in the community. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Juck and Lois; his brother, Barry; his stepfather, Os Horton; and his stepbrother, Ted Horton. For many years, Tom worked as a logging truck driver on Vancouver Island. In the mid-1970s, he briefly transitioned to beachcombing on the island's west side. An avid traveler, he fondly remembered touring Europe with friends at the age of 20. Tom possessed a deep affinity for the outdoors, spending much of his time on the water or at the beach. In his youth, he enjoyed hunting trips to the Cariboo with his father and friends and remained a passionate fisherman throughout his life. He was also an enthusiastic gardener with a particular talent for growing tomatoes—a long-standing Francis family tradition. In his later years, he found great joy in reading and exploring technology on his computer. Tom will be remembered for his gentle nature and his love for animals, especially the many dogs and cats he befriended over the years. He is survived and deeply missed by: • His devoted partner of 43 years: Lisette • His children: Daughter Miriam and stepsons Ken and Brian • His siblings: Sister Carol and Sister-in-law Geri • His nephews: Nolan and Steven • His grandchildren: Aydan and Ethan • His stepbrothers: Dan, Phil, and Murray, and stepsister Carolyn • His extended family: Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Francis and Eastman families Memorial Service A memorial service will be held in Tom’s honor on March 28, 2026, at 1:00PM at the Oceanview Church in Ladysmith. In lieu of floral tributes, the family requests that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choosing.
