Stephen Sanderson Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, Dad, Grandpa, Stephen Dennis Sanderson.

Born in Vancouver on February 12, 1942, Steve passed away peacefully in Campbell River on January 20, 2023 with his loved ones at his side. Steve battled cancer for 19 long years, enduring surgeries, radiation and chemotherapy until just a few months before his passing.
He is predeceased by his parents Bert and Connie Sanderson as well as his brothers Bernie and Mike.
He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife Sandy, son Matthew, daughters Dana (Richard), Nadine (Ernest), Caitlin (Doug), grandchildren Lewis (Rachel), Owen (Maria), Lauren (Brodie), Ella, Mia, brothers Terry(Pia), Barry, sisters-in-law Shirley, Linda, brothers-in-law Don, Bill (Viv) as well as nieces, nephews and friends.
Steve’s greatest love was his family and nothing made him happier than spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. He was passionate about fundraising and volunteering for the Cops for Cancer and Tour de Rock, which he did for almost 20 years. Steve discovered his love of travel as a young man. He spent time living in Spain and later travelled with his wife, children and grandchildren around the world. His love of cooking was inspired by a desire to recreate dishes he had enjoyed in his travels. Steve and his brother ran the family nursery business, Sanderson & Sons Nursery in Ladner, for 28 years.
We’d like to give special thanks to Dr. Farias and palliative care team as well as the home-care workers who took such good care of Steve during the past few months.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tour de Rock or the Canadian Cancer Society.
No service will be held at his request.
Rest In Peace Steve, Dad, Grandpa. We will miss you.
