It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley Lawrenson after a brief battle with cancer.
Stan is survived by his wife of 66 years, Fran, his daughters, Kathrine and Gail and his dear friend and son-in-law Albert Ballan, his granddaughter, Rebecca (Jay) and his sister Joyce Hoidas.
Stan was born in Scott, Saskatchewan and moved to Port Alberni with his family in 1946. Stan worked as a pipe fitter in the Alberni Plywoods where his skill to measure and calculate everything in his head shone. Stan was also a jack-of-all-trades outside of work, he fixed everything in the family that broke. Stan was very proud of the fact that he and Fran built their house together, which was their home for so many years. Stan enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting were his favourites. He mastered the indoors as well, best known for his camp stews and homemade soup. His blackberry wine wasn’t too bad either.
Stan will be remembered for his quiet humour and cheekiness and leaves a legacy of unconditional love and support for his family and friends.
The family gives thanks for the incredible care and compassion shown by Dr. White, Dr. Coetzee and the staff of the hospitals and Ocean Front, Comox Valley Hospice.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Stan’s memory to the Ty Watson House. According to Stan’s wishes a service will not be held.
Rest in peace Papa.
