Shanon McMurray

Sadly, Shanon Ricci McMurray has passed away at the age of 53 in Port McNeill on Thursday Jan 16, 2020. She is survived by her mother and father, Gayle Daily and Carmen Rudd as well as her siblings Gayle Ryon, Kayle Niven, and Rocko Lemke. She will also be greatly missed by her daughter and son, Candice Hunter and Clinton Rogers.

Shanon was born in Edmonton Alberta April 01, 1966 and, from a young age, began to explore Canada as her family moved often. Although She spent much of her childhood on the move, her family eventually settled on Vancouver Island. As a child she was a fierce competitor in track and field as well as gymnastics. She attended Robron High School in Campbell River and successfully attained her diploma. She went on to complete hair school and moved to Tahsis to open her own Salon. It was in this remote community that she gained a passion for competing in Logger Sports, edible plant and mushroom foraging, hiking, camping, crabbing, and anything that brought her outdoors. She eventually moved on to enjoy careers in forestry and fisheries, all the while still ensuring her friends and family had great hair. She spent the last years of her life in Port McNeill continuing her work in fisheries.

Shanon was a well-rounded person who took great interest in the arts and was fascinated with the strange an unusual. She completed special effects school in Vancouver and was a talented costume builder, offering the opportunity for her elated children to win many Halloween costume contests. She also enjoyed painting, sewing, music, and dancing.

Shanon will be remembered for her boisterous laugh, big toothy grin, charisma, and exuberant story telling. She radiated with both strength and softness and loved cooking for others. She ensured everyone was taken care of. She lived for adventure, learning, telling her stories and was so proud of her friends and family.

There is a Celebration of Life on Saturday Feb 1, 2020 in Campbell River at the Eagles Hall open to all friends who wish to pay their respects from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. In honour of Shanon’s passion for hosting, feeding and caring for others there is a catered dinner service for family and friends with invitation starting from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
