It is with great love and sadness that the family of Robert “Bob” McPhail announces his passing on November 11, 2025, in Comox, British Columbia, at the age of 90.
Born on June 14, 1935, in Walkerville, Ontario, Bob dedicated his life to service, education, and community. He proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces/RCAF for over 30 years as a Maritime Patrol Navigator and in a variety of senior staff roles, earning the respect and friendship of those with whom he served.
Following his military career, Bob brought his leadership and technical expertise to North Island College, where he was instrumental in establishing the electronics program and mentoring generations of students.
A lifelong piper, Bob was a passionate member and key leader of the Comox Valley Pipe Band, where his musicianship, mentorship, and humor left a lasting mark on the local music community.
Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife, Grace McPhail, in 2022. He will be deeply missed by his children James (Trish), Connie (Tom), and Roberta (Amy); his grandchildren Alexander Duncan, Christina Grace, Anderson James, Oliver Robert Thomas, and Serina Joy; his sister RuthAnn and family in Ontario; and by his many friends and fellow pipers.
Those who knew Bob will remember his integrity, sharp wit, and devotion to family, music, and service. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the music he shared. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Comox Valley Pipe Band by payment email to cvpbs@hotmail.com.
