Robert McGladrey Obituary

It’s with profound sadness to announce that Robert Adam McGladrey "Rob", 61, of Qualicum Beach, passed away peacefully with his beloved daughter by his side on October 12th, 2024.

Robert was born on June 21, 1963 to Gerald and Carolyn McGladrey in Nanaimo, then raised in Ladysmith BC.

Robert was a well-respected Park Operator for 20+ years in BC Parks, he was known for his industrious and kind demeanour as well as storytelling many of his favourite parks’ jokes to the campers, including about his buddy the Sasquatch and the famous “Ant Story”.

Robert enjoyed golfing, fishing, hiking, nascar racing, motorcycles and spending time with his grandsons. Rob was an accomplished songwriter with Top Records Songwriters Association of America for country music and loved the arts such as musical theatre productions. Robert loved boxing and training young boxers; he participated in matches at Bowen Arena when he was in his earlier years. Rob spent much time at the car auction in Parksville whether that was looking for his newest treasure or just there for a hotdog!

Robert was a proud father and grandfather; he spent much of his time with his daughter and playing cars with his grandsons.

Robert leaves behind his daughter Amanda (Logan) Demmitt, his 2 grandsons Rory and Luca Demmitt, his father Gerald (Liz) McGladrey, and his siblings Gerald (Colleen) McGladrey, Tanya Lees.

Robert was predeceased by his mother Carolyn McGladrey, his brother Donald (Peggy) McGladrey, and His 1st wife and life-long friend Sandra McGladrey.

Following Rob’s wishes, there will be a Burial Ceremony for close friends and family in the few weeks after his passing.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for spring 2025, for all of his friends, family, co-workers and other people he connected with throughout his journey. This will be updated with details as the event becomes closer.
