Gabriel Raymond Plante
January 03 1955 ~ April 18th 2022 (Age 67)  

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gabriel Plante “Gabe”. On April 18, 2022, Gabe passed away at the age of 67 in Nanaimo, BC. He was comfortable and with family.  

Gabe spent 20 years with the Canadian Armed Forces where he traveled the globe. He frequently spoke fondly of the relationships he made during this time and was rightfully proud of the medals and accomplishments he received throughout his career. Following a successful career with the CAF he spent 25 years with the Commissionaires where he’d patrol the port of Nanaimo waterfront, it was a job he loved and had no plans to ever retire from.

An avid reader and writer, Gabe’s apartment was filled with novels he’d appreciated over the years. His favorite genre was Fantasy / Sci Fi and the bookshelves of his home reflected that accurately. Although quite private with his writing, he loved to write and would complete full novel series. When asked if he’d ever consider publishing anything he’d just laugh and say that wasn’t the reason he wrote stories, it was purely for his own enjoyment, not profit. He had a never ending “hunting story” which he is probably still working on to this day.  

Gabe was a loved patron of the Windward Pub where he’d spend many of his evenings socializing with lifelong friends, he loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing and spent most of his nights under the stars of beautiful British Columbia. After 20 years traveling with the CAF, he still said BC was the best place on earth.  

Gabe is survived by his son, David, who will miss him greatly. Although taken too soon from this earth, Gabe lived life to the fullest every day. He saw what this world had to offer and he breathed it in. He was kind to others and believed in always doing what was right. He had a strong moral compass which is no doubt guiding him into the next life.
