Our daughter, Rachel Carmen Scott, passed away January 30th, 2026, at home in the L’Arche Jubilee House. Rachel was a 4th generational Vancouver Islander, born in Comox on August 30th, 1979.
Rachel is survived by her mother Sylvia Lawson (Jay), her father Jack Scott, and brothers Zoa (Lisa) and Jordan (Marina) as well as aunt's, uncle's and cousins on Vancouver Island and the lower mainland. Also, her chosen sister Francesca Behrens (Daniel) and brothers Bodhi McGee and Theo McGee (Tammy). Nieces Vayda, Layla, Charlotte (Nicholas), Brynn and Adelaide. Nephews Avery, Riley, Ethan and Kesler.
Rachel shared daily life with Cory, Lisa and Gary in the Jubilee House for over 20 years and will be dearly missed by them.
Rachel loved life. Her pure heart, innocence and great sense of humor brought joy to those who knew her. Rachel’s capacity for unconditional love was truly inspiring. She loved dancing, country music, food and spending time with her favourite animal friends, cats, dogs and horses alike. Rachel loved sunny days at the beach. If you are traveling to somewhere with warm ocean water, please think of her while playing in the waves.
There are no words to express the depth of gratitude we feel for the L’Arche community and the staff at Jubilee House. Their love and compassion for Rachel and her family through her end-of-life journey helped to give us strength for our eventual loss. There are far too many individuals who loved and cared for Rachel to name here but we do want to say a special thank you to nurses Valerie and Janice and assistants Shauna and Janet.
In lieu of flowers, we ask you to consider donating to either the L’Arche Building Fund or Rachel’s favorite Hay for Horses at Therapeutic Riding.
There will be a Celebration of Life at the Old Red Church in Comox on Monday, February 23rd, 2-4 pm.
There will be another gathering for Rachel later in the summer where friends and family members who need to travel will be better able to attend.
