It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Pete, loving husband, father,
grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Born in Halifax, Pete spent his early years as an Air Force
brat, growing up in Winnipeg, Comox, Germany, PEl, and Victoria. At a young age he joined
various trades, spending much of his working life as a roofer. After many years in Victoria, he
met his wife, Carol, and came back to the Comox Valley, where they lived together for 17
years.
Pete loved sports. He played hockey in his youth and was a feared pitcher in his adult years
playing the game he loved and went on to coach a woman's softball team. He spent many
years volunteering for his community as a volunteer fireman for Highlands. Search &
Rescue. In later years he volunteered at the youth Totem soccer tournaments.
A man like none other, Pete was often described as legendary, larger than life, right out a
movie. He was tougher than nails, often known to seal wounds with crazy glue and
keep on working to get a job done rather than seek medical attention. He was tall in stature
with an intimidating first impression, but Pete was gentle giant of a man with a kind soul. He
was many times a man who gave more than he got. He was generous to a fault. He would
help anyone who asked and helped many who didn't. He rarely said no and was known to do
jobs for a simple thank you or home baked goods. He never hesitated to go out in any kind of
weather, unasked, to ensure people remained comfortable in their homes.
Pete had a wonderful off beat sense of humor, often centered on his own life experiences
which he would spring on you often when least expected. He was a man of honesty, integrity,
and kindness. He lived his values each day and his actions showed his solid character.
Pete is survived by his loving wife Carol, his daughters Amber (Scott), Tanya (Trevor),
grandchildren Jinayah, lsla, Colby, and Emmitt, sisters Dianne (Martin), Peggy (Bob), Karyn
the mother of his children, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff of Comox Valley Hospital Emergency Department for
their kindness as well as the overwhelming support of friends and colleagues from Nelson
Roofing (Local 276) Courtenay and Campbell River Division, customers and friends from
near and far who continue to extend their love and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Pete, Sunday, February 9th, at the Comox Legion, located
at 1825 Comox Ave in Comox beginning at 1 PM.
