Patricia Thompson Obituary

Our family wishes to share our profound sadness that on the sunny spring morning of April 11, 2022, our beloved mother Pat left this world –the center of our family has gone.

Patricia Anne was born in Vancouver on November 15, 1931, to Fred and Annie Leggett. Patsy had a wonderful childhood; she experienced the rationing at the end of WW2 and watched the building of the Lion`s Gate Bridge from her hilltop home.

Patsy and family spent many summers on Bowen Island where she became a lifeguard and gave demonstrations for the Royal Lifesaving Club. Patsy enjoyed dancing and excelled in Russian dance as well as being a maypole dancer! She also played the piano. She was a gifted athlete and played basketball and field hockey. As a teenager in 1946, Mom`s family moved to Kenya Cottage in Royston. Mom graduated from high school in Courtenay and worked at B.C. Tel as an operator.

Patsy married her first husband Donald Willams and soon became a busy mother to three children. Some years later, she met and married a new love- Al Thompson and became a mom to four more children. They were together for over 50 years.

Our Mom was an amazing stay at home mom who raised a blended family of seven children and our home was filled with the wonderful aroma of fresh baked bread, the cookie jar was full, and Mom was famous for her Christmas puddings and butter tarts. Many friends also enjoyed the gift of her baking deliveries.

Mom belonged to Beta Sigma Phi for 70 years and embraced her sorority sisters in love and friendship.

Mom was an avid curler and attended and won several bonspiels. Mom enjoyed golf and crossword puzzles and she loved her home - her door was always open to friends and neighbours.

Pat was thrilled to learn of a long-lost branch of the family in England and traveled there several times to search her ancestry. Mom and friends cruised and traveled Europe and Mom and Al also traveled, taking their motor home across Canada, enjoying winters in Palm Springs and many cruises. Pat loved to dress for the occasion and enjoyed meeting people on her travels. She and Al also owned several boats and enjoyed their time at sea.

Mom also cared for her mother in her home for sixteen years until G.G.`s death at the age of 100.

Pat and Al owned several businesses over the years, the last being Fishermen`s Lodge in Oyster River for over 30 years.

Later years brought some health challenges which Mom met head on with grit and determination...she was often referred to as “a tough old bird” which she took great delight in. She was an indomitable spirit.

Mom moved to Comox Valley Senior`s Village three years ago making new friends amongst both staff and residents.

Pat was predeceased by Al in 2018 and her son Brian. She is survived and will be forever missed by her children, Sheryl, Cathy (Rick) Allana (Gary) Allan (Robin) Susan and Allon (Joanne). Also survived by her brother Stanley (Nancy), 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mom always said that her greatest accomplishment was her children, and we will miss her Saturday morning phone calls and her kind and generous spirit. She was the glue that held our family together, our matriarch.

Our family wish to thank Dr. Kevin Swanson for his years of care and compassion, the staff at Comox Valley Seniors Village and the wonderful staff and our hospital for the love and tender care Mom was given. Special thanks to Cathy Andrews for the care and love she gave our mom-Daughter #5!

If donations wish to be given, we ask that the Trigeminal Neuralgia Association receive your support.
