Patricia Helen (Hancock) Leigh

Leigh, Patricia Helen Monkhouse (neé Hancock) September 12, 1943 – February 18, 2023. Patt, beloved wife of Ronald Leigh for 28 years, passed away peacefully in Campbell River Regional Hospital. Patt was born in Victoria, BC where she split her life between there and Campbell River.

She leaves behind her three children, Harla (Zeljko) Batinovic, Scott (Ann) Monkhouse of Port Orchard WA, and Steven (Trisha) Monkhouse, stepdaughters, Thérèse and Catherine Leigh and eight grandchildren Aspen (Wyatt) Coffin, Ian Monkhouse, Julena, Niko and Oliver Batinovic, Liam, Zachary and Kira Sidhu.

Patt was previously married to Gerry Monkhouse (deceased) and pre-deceased by her parents, John and Kay Hancock and sister Judy Ogden. She will be sorely missed by her siblings, Jacquie, Mike (Fran), Jeff (Tracy), Mark (Sue), Donnie (Alex) Hancock, and 15 nieces and nephews and many greats.

Patt raised her kids, often juggling motherhood and a job, but never loosing her spirit. When she met Ron, she found her adventure. From trout fish to camping and hiking on Vancouver Island to cycling Europe and driving across Canada in their RV, they had fun together. She loved being at their various cabins and teaching her grandchildren to jump in rain puddles and not drown in lakes.

Patt loved her family, always willing to jump in where needed. She was an avid reader and collected all the Harlequin Romance novels. She loved to sew (even if you didn’t want it) and often made eclectic choices. She was a respected member of the Eastern Star – Chas Maria Chapter in Campbell River and enjoyed the antics of her Red Hatter ladies. In her last years, Patt had limited movement, but many of her friends came to visit and she knew she was appreciated. A special thanks to her granddaughter, Julena who took such good care of her.

We know that Patt will be dancing in heaven to her favourite song “Old Time Rock and Roll”!
