Noel Hutt Obituary

Noel Leonard Hutt
December 17, 1927 – October 19, 2024 (96+ years old)
It was with great sadness that we said goodbye to our Dear Dad/Grandpa/Great Grandpa recently.  Dad lived a long, healthy life and enjoyed his family visits, getting together with his breakfast fellows at Tania’s, walking through his retirement park and visiting with neighbours and dear friends, attending his Nanaimo Clippers as a season’s ticket holder for many years, cheering on the Winnipeg Jets but faithfully watching the Vancouver Canucks, and watching anything hockey related on TV.
Dad was born in Vancouver, B.C., lived in Ft. Langley, and as a young man worked hard at fishing on the west coast and then moved to Nanaimo, BC where he worked in various saw mills.  He built two homes in Harewood and then moved to Vanderhoof, BC where he tried farming, did janitorial work and then retired from Plateau Mill in the 1990’s.  Dad then returned to Nanaimo where he spent his remaining years in Sharman Park.
Dad became an avid golfer in his later years, read many golf magazines and practiced constantly at Beban Park driving range.  He became a perfectionist at the game and was extremely excited to attend and watch the PGA when they competed in Winnipeg.  Dad played a few games into his 90’s but then decided to become an armchair commentator especially when Tiger Woods was playing.
Dad travelled back and forth to Vanderhoof, BC to visit daughter Monica and husband Wes (Loper), granddaughter Chantelle and husband Steven (Wiebe), great granddaughters Alexis and Ava, and grandson Kyle Loper.   Dad also travelled to Winnipeg to visit daughter Joan and husband Gerry (White), Gerry’s daughter Jill and husband Boots. Dad always had great times with the Caddy Lake gang and survived their kidding.  His vacation travels also took him to Florida, Arizona and Vegas where he loved the heat.
Our Dad was a great cook – his specialty was his famous meat loaf, BBQ ribs and rice pudding.  EVERY meal was accompanied by spinach – he was our very own Popeye! When Dad tired of cooking he would spend breakfast time at Tania’s and charming the girls, liver and onions at Milanos and charming the girls and a few drive-thru’s for a quick burger.  His meal routine was legendary……Some other notable facts about our Dad – he was generous to his family, loved to dress up (very handsome fellow), loved dogs (Cam 1 and Cam 2), loved camping, enjoyed an occasional glass of Copper Moon wine, became a Toastmaster, loved attending old car shows, enjoyed watching lacrosse and tennis, was an excellent downhill skier as well as an excellent slalom water skier.
We are so grateful to have Dad in our lives for almost 97 years but as dementia/Alzheimer’s took over his mind and body, we were relieved when he suffered no more.  His Sharman Park neighbours  and breakfast buddies became his extended family in Nanaimo and we are so very thankful for your friendships, your kindness and your caring.  A heartfelt thankyou to Home Care/Home Support/NRGH nurses and aides/and the wonderful people at NRGH Palliative who provided him comfort and support as he moved on to his next journey. Telford’s Cindy and Patrick – we’re very grateful for your kindness and care with our Dad.  A special thankyou to Dr. Hendrik Putter who was Dad’s  doctor for many years – always there when he needed him……….a life well lived and very much loved…….As per Dad’s  wishes, cremation has taken place and a family ash scattering ceremony will take place in spring/summer 2025.
