Morley Johnson Obituary

With a heart full of love and gratitude, we remember the inspiring life of Morley Johnson, who was born on December 13, 1945, in Duncan, BC. Morley’s family moved to Surrey when he was three, where he lived and worked until returning to the island with Mary in 2008. Morley passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, in Campbell River, surrounded by his loving family. Supportive and thoughtful, Morley was a beacon of creativity and wisdom who touched many throughout his life as a husband, father, educator, and friend.

Morley was a charter student at Simon Fraser University before embarking on a 33-year career teaching students with disabilities and special needs in the Surrey School District. He also started and successfully ran his own business, Lo-Cost Sign, Nametag and Engraving, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit. Morley was not just a teacher by profession but also a teacher in life, guiding those around him with his wisdom and kindness.

Outside the classroom, Morley loved fishing, travelling, and gardening. He enjoyed visiting and good conversation with friends and neighbours. He had a MacGyver-like talent for fixing, building, and improving with the simplest of tools. Morley loved to travel in all forms. He travelled by motor scooter and Citroen 2CV across Europe, he drove to Mexico in a Volkswagen van, and he ventured across North America many times with his family in their motorhome. Later in life, he found joy in cruising around the world with Mary and friends. For a period of time after moving to Campbell River in 2008, Morley enjoyed volunteering at the Oyster River Enhancement Society hatchery. His zest for life was truly inspiring, and his love for meeting new people and experiencing new things was infectious.

Morley is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his son, Cameron (Vanessa); his daughter, Sheena (Colin); and his grandchildren, Willow, Rowena, Arthur, and a fourth grandchild arriving in the spring. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lief and Irene. Morley's legacy of love, support, and creativity will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

At Morley’s request, there will be no service. We invite you to share your memories of Morley on his memorial page. Your stories will serve as a tribute to his remarkable life and his impact on all those he encountered.
