Miriam Dupasquier Obituary

It is with deep sorrow we share that on December 19, 2023, Miriam passed away peacefully surrounded with the love of her family. She filled her 92 years of life with tremendous kindness, compassion and a sincere thoughtfulness for others.

Miriam was born in Jasper, Alberta in 1931. At the age of 7 she moved with her parents and 3 siblings to North Vancouver where she grew up, married, and raised her own family. In 2000 she relocated to the Comox Valley to be close to family.

During the course of her lifetime, Miriam courageously overcame several life altering challenges with incredible resiliency. She was widowed with 2 very young children at the age of 20 and later, with the support of her 2 brothers and sister, held the family together when a serious illness hospitalized her new husband and 3 children for nearly a year. Miriam also capably took on the wondrous and ongoing changes that the world presented to her, even becoming quite proficient with her new Tablet at the young age of 85!

Mum was a gentle, yet fun-loving soul with a marvelous sense of humour. She sparkled with love and happiness when sharing time with her adoring family and friends. Miriam made time for everyone, listening intently with genuine care and without judgement. Those conversations were often shared while enjoying a hot cuppa tea and her scrumptious freshly baked cookies, or if the situation called for it, a nice cold beer! No matter, she had a way of making people feel special.

Miriam’s interests were varied and remained keen throughout her life; her Spotify playlist ranged from 70s and 80s Rock and Roll, classical music, popular songs from the “Hit Parade” of the 1940s and 1950s and even the “new stuff.”  She was always up on current events of all categories be it entertainment, sports, fashion, or politics. As a voracious reader, at the age of 90 Mum decided “it was about time she read War and Peace!” So, she did. Mum especially considered herself to be one of the original and possibly most dedicated BC Lions and Vancouver Canucks fan having cheered those teams on since the 1950s!

Miriam's extraordinary flower gardens were her escape. She eagerly welcomed spring with a gorgeous display of carefully selected flowers which she tenderly tended to with pride. But her most obvious pride was for that of her 5 children only to possibly be “out prided” by her 7 amazing grandchildren.

Laughing, loving, and caring for one another was part of the legacy she left us with, and we are all better because of it.
