Melvin Frederick Fitzgerald

Melvin passed away from this life at the age of 77 after a 7 month battle with ALS, on February 20,
2020.
Mel was born on September 3, 1942 in Comox, BC and was an Island boy who attended school in
Campbell River. During his life he worked in Commercial Fishing, Logging, Mechanics, (25 years with
MacMillian Blowdel), Owner operator of Scrappies Towing & Repair and Driver for the Air Porter.
Mel was a jack of all trades, always fixing something. He loved to talk to people and had a heart of
gold. His hobby was helping people wherever he could. He was a member of the Courtenay Fellowship
Baptist Church.
Mel was predeceased by his parents Doris and Ronald and his sister Irene.
He is survived by his loving wife Jean, sons Jonathan, Mel Jr, Billy and step-son Murray,
15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Siblings Diane (Bud), Lil (Bob), Ann (Bill), Coleen (Tom),
Fay (Al) and Jim (Ann), In-laws Gordon (Charlotte) and Marion and all their families.
A special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at Campbell River Hospital, Courtenay Hospital
and Hospice at the Views Comox for the kind and compassionate care Mel received.
A celebration of Mel's life will be held on Saturday March 7, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Courtenay Fellowship
Baptist Church on 2963 Lake Trail Road, Courtenay, BC
