Margaret, (Margie) McGuire: June 20, 1934-February 27, 2026
It is with sadness that the family of Margie announces her peaceful passing.
Born in Glasgow Scotland, Margie came to Canada with her young family in 1967, where they added another daughter to the family. Living first in Alberta, the family moved to Nanaimo in May of 1973. Margie was a child in the UK during WW2, experiencing nightly air raids. This experience contributed to her life long strength. She was proud of being a pioneer of working women, trained as an accountant. Margie was an avid competitive badminton player for several decades, as well as a provincial level coach. For over 40 years Margie was a volunteer at the Ladies Auxiliary branch of the Royal Canadian Legion branch 257, filling many leadership roles, and was involved with St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Nanaimo. Margie was a lover of animals, having had several pets throughout her lifetime.
Margie is predeceased by her parents and both of her siblings. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Dawn, (Craig), Carol, (Tony), and Fiona, (Matt), her 4 adored grandchildren Hollie, Malcolm, Alex, and Jada, and her former spouse, Alf.
The family thanks the staff at Kiwanis Lodge for their many years of excellent care of Margie.
A celebration of life will be held at 12:30 pm on Sunday, May 3rd at the Kin Hut at Departure Bay Beach.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the BC SPCA https://spca.bc.ca/in Margie’s name.
