It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mabel Louise Christensen. Louise was born and raised in Vancouver. Her parents, Alfred Hansen and Magnhild Aaboen, were immigrants from Norway. Louise met Gary on a blind date, and she eventually moved to Courtenay to be with him. They were married in 1963.
Louise spent a lot of time being involved with the various activities that her children participated in, ranging from being a Brownie leader to an early morning swim practice chauffeur. Some of Louise's favourite activities over the years included being part of the Tuesday morning bowling league, the Monday evening TOPS, and tri-weekly exercise classes through Courtenay Rec, which were almost always followed by coffee klatches with the aerobics gang at the Bar None and the Atlas. Louise lived on Choquette Road for 55 years and made friends with people throughout the neighbourhood. For the past twenty years she enjoyed regular trips to northern Idaho to visit her daughter and family. An interesting bit of nostalgia is that Louise attended the only concert that Elvis gave in Vancouver.
Louise is missed by her husband Gary, daughter Brenda (Bob Lauer), son Glen, and granddaughters Samantha and Sydney. She also leaves behind some dear longtime friends, including Marg, Ann, Annette, and Dorothy. Special thanks go to the wonderful VIHA home support staff, many of whom became friends, as well as the staff at CVH and Dr. Daws. Memorial donations in Louise's honour to either the SPCA, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice would be gratefully appreciated.
