Lyle Short Obituary

Lyle James Short passed away at North Island Hospital, Courtenay on Friday afternoon June 14, 2024, at the age of 76 due to illness associated with Parkinson’s. Lyle was born in Didsbury, AB on October 24, 1947, and is predeceased by his parents William (Teresa) and Myrtle (Tom) and his cherished in-laws Ken and Doreen Fenton.

Dad, Grandpa, Lyle #1 leaves behind his devoted family, including his loving wife Linda, his two children Kim (Chris) and Kevin (Sherena), his brother Larry (Sharon) and his grandchildren Hanna, Thane, Noah and Lyla. Lyle will be missed by his many relatives and friends across Alberta and British Columbia.

Lyle was a man who truly embraced life, finding immense joy in being active. He cherished fishing trips with loved ones, regular rounds of golf played with close friends and family, camping trips to the Kananaskis and the Okanagan, cultivating beautiful gardens filled with tomatoes, and playing third base for the Calgary Herald slow pitch team. Lyle dedicated over 40 years of his career to the Calgary Herald, where his hard work and commitment made a lasting impact on his colleagues and the community. His love for everything baseball was unwavering, and he never lost hope that his beloved Blue Jays would make it to the World Series. Beyond his professional life and sports passion, Lyle was a skilled handyman who could fix almost anything… even if it meant there were a few spare parts left over. Although Parkinson’s cruelly took away his ability to enjoy these passions in his later years, it never diminished his spirit. His humour and kindness will forever be remembered by all who knew him. His positivity and quick wit brought joy to everyone around him.

Dad, we are going to miss you so much. Your energy, your jokes, and your love made our lives richer. Rest easy knowing you will always be in our hearts.

A celebration of Lyle's life will be held on Monday, August 12th in Kananaskis, Alberta at 11 am. For further details please contact pfeiferkimberly@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to  http://Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
