Laura Chalmers Obituary

Laura Chalmers (Fraser) - June 6, 1974 – March 5, 2024

It is with great sadness that our family is announcing the passing of Laura Chalmers (Fraser) who was taken too soon at the age of 49.  She passed away peacefully after enduring a long illness which she fought with incredible strength.  Laura touched everyone she met with humor and compassion and will be greatly missed by those blessed to have known her.

Laura was born on June 6, 1974 in Grande Cache, Alberta and moved to Port Alberni, BC as a toddler.   She graduated from Carihi High School in Campbell River and then went onto post-secondary education at North Island College.  She was a self-starter who worked hard from a young age. She had a successful career with Shaw Communications for over a decade where she exceled at all she did.

Although she had many accomplishments, the two she was most proud of were her loving marriage of 24 years to her devoted husband Paul and her 2 beautiful boys Adam and Tyler.  She was a loving wife and mother and always put her family’s needs above her own.   Her boys were heavily involved in year-round sports and Laura would volunteer countless hours for all fundraising initiative’s.  She always wanted the very best for her boys and would often say to them “Smart Choices” as they started a new day. When she wasn’t fundraising or supporting her family, she loved spending time at the beach, playing with her dogs, gardening and Casino Nights with her friend Jamie. Laura was also known for her incredible sense of humour and this stayed with her right until the end.

She is survived by Paul, her loving and incredibly devoted husband of 24 years, her beautiful sons Tyler and Adam, her brother Bill, niece and nephews, Kaydence, Chase and Hunter.  Uncle Roy Hunter and Aunt Sue Hunter  and Aunt Kelly Hoffman, Aunt Onalee Schatz (Joe Schatz), loving friends Tracey Urquhart and Jami Easterbrook.

She is predeceased by her mother Linda Adam, father Jim Fraser, brother Jim Fraser, grandparents, Wes and Margaret Hunter,

A celebration of life will be held at Costin Hall at 7232 Lantzville Road, Lantzville  on April 13th at 2:30pm.  Please direct any donations, in lieu of flowers, to a Charity of your choice or the .B.C. Children's Hospital
