Katherine Anne Johnston

Katherine Anne Johnston passed away peacefully on June 9 2024, surrounded by her family at the age of 90. Anne was pre-deceased by her brother Donald, her son Randy, and her husband Alan.

Anne will be dearly missed by her children Raelene (Mike), Rick (Lisa), and Rhea (Dennis).

Anne’s early days were spent in Chemainus. She moved to Ladysmith as a young adult and soon became very active in the community. Passionate about swimming, she loved being involved in the transformation of Transfer Beach from a coal slack pile into a beautiful park. Anne was instrumental in setting up the original lifeguard training and swimming programs in Ladysmith. Many may recall taking swimming lessons or tests from Anne!

Along with her husband Al, Anne enjoyed working and socializing with their Kinsmen and Kinette friends. In later years she was a devoted hospital board trustee and an active volunteer for many local organizations.

Swimming remained a theme throughout Anne’s life. Many happy hours were spent in or around the family pool. She loved hosting pool parties, and family gatherings; and most of all spending time with her 6 grandchildren.
