Jozsef Takacs
Dec 22, 1934 – Mar 18, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jozsef Takacs, loving husband, father, grandfather (aka Apo) and great grandfather. He passed away peacefully in Nanaimo surrounded by his family.
He will be missed by his wife of 56 years Agnes, Sister Nyanyi, Children Peter (Marie) and Susie (Jan), Grandsons Christopher, Gregory, Andrew and Matthew, Great Grandson Ozzie, and extended family.
Jozsef was born in Kaposvar, Hungary where he lived until his university years which he started at the Sopron Forestry University. He left his beloved country in 1956 during the uprising and emigrated to Canada with a large portion of his school. He finished his degree in 1959 as part of the UBC Forestry’s Sopron Division where the curriculum was taught in both English and Hungarian. He remained an active member of his Sopron alumni group for the rest of his life.
Jozsef worked initially as a forester but later as a design technician in the sawmill and pulp and paper industries. His true passions were however his family and scouting, where he led the Hungarian Scout Group in Vancouver for 25 years. In this capacity he touched the lives of over 300 children and left a lasting legacy. His other interests included wood working, growing vegetables, hunting, camping, and supporting his Church. He loved social gatherings and was known to enjoy the occasional glass of wine and singing.
Even though we know that you were ready and are now in a better place, we will all miss you dearly as you touched our lives in so many positive ways. We find solace in that you did not suffer and that your final breaths were in the presence of those that loved you very much.
