Jules was born in the small coal mining community of Corbin B.C., south of the Crowsnest Pass, to parents who immigrated to Canada from Zuberec, Slovakia. Shortly after, the family moved to Nakusp joining many other Slovak families in the region. As a boy Jules assisted on the family farm and at 15 years of age ventured into the local forest industry and in 1959 he moved to Terrace to work in a lumber mill. His logging career started in the 1960's taking him from mainland BC inlets, the Queen Charlotte Islands and eventually to Vancouver Island in 1981.
It was in the Charlottes where he started his passion for golfing, a pursuit in which he became very skilled. Golfing and curling, operating a sawmill and keeping up to date with the NHL and the PGA kept Jules very active until 2021 when a stroke limited his mobility. He continued to socialize with many friends from Sunnydale and his career until his passing.
Jules will be missed by partner Magge, his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 1st at 2 pm, at the Sunnydale Golf Course. Please join us for a casual afternoon to reminisce and remember Jules and enjoy the company of friends and family. Feel free to wear your favourite golf shirt and share in a light lunch and refreshments.
