Joseph Barry Lapointe or JB or Barry was born on 29 April 1938 in North Battleford Saskatchewan. His family eventually moved to Thunder Bay where he lived most of his child hood. At the age o 16 he entered the apprentice soldier program and was posted to CFB Shilo. He me the love of his life Joan when they were both 17 and the adventure began. They were married in Jan 1958, and not too long after started moving – Gagetown, Northern Germany, Winnipeg and then on to Yuma Arizona. At that time Barry took his commission and went on course in Shilo. Joan and 2 kids in tow, moved with him. From there it was to Gagetown, Northern Germany, Lahr, back to Gagetown, back to Lahr and then on to Ottawa. Barry worked at NDHQ until his first retirement. He transferred to Dept of Supply and Service and was eventually posted to Zurich. In the middle of his Zurich posting, he re-enlisted int he military before returning to retire in Ottawa (for the second time). This time the retirement would stick – Barry and Joan moved to Lantzville/Nanaimo and quit moving.
The moving was only a small part, Barry enjoyed a challenge and he worked hard at his job. He enjoyed being physically active and participated in basketball, volleyball, and running. In the last few years he enjoyed hiking and walking and was faithful about going out every day
It did not matter where they lived, they maintained a home regardless of the “house”. The door was always open and friends welcome.
Barry died very peacefully. In his words he had a wonderful life.
