With great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of our dad, grampa and husband, John Kent Michener on December 13, 2022.
Dad was born in Vancouver on February 27, 1943. He grew up in Vancouver and then moved to Ocean Falls, BC, where he gained his Red Seal Millwright ticket, just like his father Richard, who actually wrote the textbook used at BCIT.
Ocean Falls was where it all started, seeing the birth of Janet and Allan and the marriage of John and Rose. From there the family moved to Whonnock, then Mission, where Gwen was born. Mission was where John was able to start his hobby farm on 5 acres. The kids have fond memories of pigs, ducks, a cow, goats, dogs and numerous cats. The family moved back and forth to Tasu and Prince Rupert from Mission before selling the acreage and finally settling in Port Alice in 1986, where John was a millwright and then a foreman at the pulp and paper mill.
From Port Alice, the kids grew up and moved away and John and Rose moved to their dream home at the beach in Port Hardy in 2003. There he was able to watch his grandsons Carson and Parker grow up.
John was an avid reader, a lover of puns, had a very quick wit, and a deep love of the ocean. Before having a family he travelled all over North America and loved to scuba dive and fish. He owned a boat as well as many small businesses. He was a very intelligent, proud man who had a great love for learning and his family. The kids always came first, and a note found in his belongings stated that if there was one thing he wouldn't change, it was his kids.
John is survived by his wife Rosemarie Michener, daughter Janet Cesaretti (Carlo), son Allan Michener, daughter Gwen Michener, and grandsons Carson Cesaretti and Parker Cesaretti.
