Joan E. M. Kelly
Sadly, Joan passed away on June 19 at the age of 97. She was born in London, England, and had two older brothers. She finished school during WWII, and immediately got work at the Admiralty decoding messages; she had good memories of those years.
At the end of the war, she met and married John, a Canadian soldier, and had 74 years of a good marriage living in both England and Canada while raising five children. She loved living close to the sea, especially with a good view of the water. She enjoyed animals, gardening, reading, knitting, sewing. She kept her mind active and alert especially in later years by doing crossword puzzles, getting emails from the family, doing jigsaw puzzles on her iPad, and watching favourite TV British detective shows. The retirement years were spent travelling to all corners of the UK, parts of Europe, across Canada, the States, and China.
She is predeceased by her parents, brothers, husband, and daughter Elizabeth; she is survived by her children Anne, Jane, Jean, and David, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Her final years were spent in a lovely apartment at the Nanaimo Seniors Village where she enjoyed many new friends, interesting bus excursions, music afternoons, and wonderful staff. Many thanks to you all at NSV! And many thanks to the doctors and nurses at NRGH for taking care of Mum in her final weeks.
Cremation has taken place; no service was requested.
