With enormous sorrow we announce the passing of Jean Mary Wigge (nee Westfield) after a long and courageous battle with dementia.
Beloved wife of Dieter, treasured sister of Milton Westfield, and extraordinary mother of Steven, Michael, and Heidi (Fernando Souza). Loving grandmother to Michael Wigge-Torres and Matthew Souza.
Jean was born in Yorkshire, England. She met Dieter while she was working in London, and that is where they fell in love. Soon after, they moved to Montreal to start a life together. Jean spent time as a teacher and social worker. She was also a writer and had a keen intelligence and creative mind.
Jean loved to read – especially mysteries. Agatha Christie was her favorite writer. She had a bright warm smile, a great sense of humour and made friends with everyone she met. Jean was a wonderful cook; her roast beef and Yorkshire pudding dinners were legendary. The family has many happy memories of meals together.
As Jean’s illness progressed, she received around-the-clock support from her husband. Also in his nineties, Dieter stayed up all night many times to care for her. His love and commitment was extraordinary.
Words cannot express our gratitude for having Jean in our lives, and we will hold her in our hearts forever. God bless you. Rest in Peace.
