James "Gordy" Pirie Obituary

Born in North Vancouver British Columbia, he is survived by sons, Kim Pirie of Nanaimo B.C., Scott Pirie of Kamloops B.C. and Gary Pirie of Langley B.C., grandchildren Bradley Pirie of Iqaluit, Nunavut and Lindsay Pirie of Nanaimo B.C., sisters Ann Hill of Langley B.C. and Diane Gilman (Jim) of Garden City, Idaho.

Gordy is preceded by his parents, Charles Alexander Pirie in 1979; his mother Mary Lou (Oliver) Pirie in 1990; wife Wilma Rae (Plewes) Pirie in 1991, Sister Buffy Hitch in 1992, brother Robert (Keith) Pirie in 2013, life partner Jane Holmes in 2012 and daughter in law Brenda (Symonds) Pirie in 2022.

Gordy joined the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 17 in 1951 and served for 15 years; 10 years regular service and 5 years in reserve retiring Petty Officer Second Class CD. While in the navy he met and married Wilma Plewes on September 3, 1954, until Wilma’s passing of cancer in 1991. Their marriage produced three sons, Kim in 1956, Scott in 1960 and Gary in 1962.

After leaving the Navy, Gordy delivered milk for Northwestern Creamery in Victoria then entered sales and later a partner at City Office Equipment Victoria and after with Superior Business Machines in Vancouver and Edmonton in Sales and as Branch Manager. Gordy and his family later moved to Langley B.C. where he owned and operated Townline Office Equipment until his retirement in 1994.

Upon retirement Gordy and his life partner Jane Holmes moved to Courtenay B.C. where they enjoyed nature walks and golf.

The family of Gordy wishes to thank the staff of Comox Valley Hospital and of Community Home Care for their excellent care. Special thanks to the many friends and neighbours who visited and assisted Gordy when he needed help.

There will be no service as was Gordy’s request.
