Jacqueline McManus Obituary

Jacqueline passed away on June 1 at the Views in Comox at the age of 91. She was predeceased by her parents Pearl and Jack, her younger brother Ronny, her older brother Carl, her ex-husband Bob, and her son Robert. She is survived by her daughter Kelly and grandchildren Reid, Taylor, and Grayson. Jacqueline was a beloved mother and grandmother, and her greatest love was her family.

Jacqueline was born in Elk Lake, Ontario where her parents later ran the only general store. She was a good student who, in order to help her family make ends meet, needed to drop out of school for a year in Grade 11. She returned the next fall and graduated. She then worked as an administrative assistant in Toronto before having a family.

Jacqueline met and married Robert “Bob” McManus. They had many adventures together such as building a pool in The Rouge, snowmobiling with friends in Whitevale, and enjoyed their life in Ontario. They eventually moving to BC, first to Cowichan Bay and then later to Comox where they bought Comox Builders. While in Comox, Jacqueline went on many school fieldtrips and was remembered by many of her children’s school friends for her kindness. She also spent a considerable amount of time at the rink with the other skating moms. Jaci and Bob hosted many parties including grad party for their son and daughter. They enjoyed trips together to the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic, Later she loved to travel with her grown children with special trips to London, Paris, Mexico, and Hawaii. However, she always loved to return home to her children and dogs.

Jacqueline will be remembered for her feistiness which increased as she got older, her kindness, and her love of others including her many dogs. Jacqueline was fiercely proud of her children and grandchildren and was always highly involved in their lives.

In her later years Jaci developed dementia and move into James Bay Care Home and later The Views. Special thanks to Dr. Janet Green who was her physician for many years and the staff at the Views. No service at her request. Donations can be made in her honor to Covenant House in Vancouver which supports unhoused youth or the SPCA.
