Ian Cook Obituary

Ian Robert Melville Cook

July 21, 1963 - November 19, 2024

After a short but valiant battle with Glioblastoma, Ian left us one Tuesday evening on a fierce cyclone wind.

True to his nature, his exit was calm and peaceful, with a slight dramatic flair.

If you were lucky enough to know Ian, you knew acceptance, love, respect and true friendship.

He was a lifelong learner driven by natural curiosity, a giver of himself, an eternal optimist, in essence a true renaissance man.

As a genuinely compassionate and intuitive healer, Ian helped countless people in his 30 years as a Registered Massage Therapist in Nanaimo.

He felt blessed that many who started as patients or colleagues ultimately became friends.

His caring and positive attitude was a gift, though his jokes were notoriously terrible.

Ian excelled at everything he did and was always up for a new challenge or opportunity to learn and experience all life had to offer.

He participated enthusiastically in many sports including curling, golf, flyfishing and soccer, always making lifelong friendships along the way.

Entertaining was a passion of Ian’s, and his love of cooking, red wine and scotch was shared with everyone who crossed his path.

Everyone was welcome to a seat at our table to enjoy Ian's latest culinary creations paired with fine wines and spirits.

A true traveler at heart, Ian enjoyed family vacations in Kauai, Jamaica, Mexico, California, Las Vegas and the Cook Islands.

He travelled and lived all over B.C, Alberta, Kamloops and Ontario over his lifetime, always eager to experience new places.

Ian embraced his role as husband, Proud Dad and Poppa with his usual enthusiastic optimism, energy and unlimited love.

Our family was blessed by Ian's presence, and we are all much better people for having known and been loved by him.

His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and all he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.

His absence is felt deeply, and the colors of life are muted but when he shows himself in every radiant sunrise and sunset.

Left to forever miss Ian are : his devoted wife Lesley , his son Spencer ( Kelsey) , his daughters Annika & Natasha (Quinn), his grandchildren Derek, Logan, Reggie, Olivia and Jayden ( who he raised as a son ) his late mother Louise, his father Graym and bonus Mom Judy , his brother Jon, his sisters Sharron & Janet (Todd ) ,his nephews James, Ajsa and Marcel & his niece Hannah.

Ian also leaves a large extended family including the Roberts, Wilson and Morris families, he loved you all.

Raise a glass and speak often of the beautiful spirit of Ian- May he live on in our hearts and memories forever.

We are eternally grateful to the Royal Jubilee Hospital and for the exceptional care Ian received at the Nanaimo Palliative Care Unit.
