Hugh Bexrud Obituary

Hugh was born in Victoria, B.C. at Jubilee Hospital and passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Ocean View in Comox, B.C.

Hugh was kind, faithful, very helpful, loving, caring, thoughtful, compassionate, happy and friendly.  He was a quiet man with a wonderful sense of humor and an smile for everyone.

Hugh met his wife Roberta through work while at Goodwill Enterprises in 1963/64.  They met again in 1965 at Leighton Ford Crusade.  Hugh and Roberta were married on March 15th, 1968, in Sidney, B.C.  There are so many memories of their life together. The night of their marriage Hugh signed the hotel register as "Hugh and wife"; he had such a sense of humor.  Roberta fondly recalls the time that Hugh asked her to steer a car he was pushing, and she steered it right into a ditch!  He stated that "never again would she steer his car", but Roberta defended herself saying she could not see where she was steering.

After Hugh and Roberta married, they lived in Colwood, B.C. for six months and then Saanichton, B.C from November 1968 to November 1970.  They then moved to Kamloops, B.C. where Hugh worked for a janitorial company; then off to Vernon to join another janitorial company.  In 1974 they moved back to Victoria where Hugh started to work for the school board which took them to Langford in 1979 and The Comox Valley in 2007.  Hugh worked for the school board for more than 27 years as a custodian.

Before Hugh became sick, he and Roberta attended Courtenay Fellowship Baptist Church.  Hugh’s hobbies were working on old vehicles and owning them.  He collected die cast vehicles and big trucks. Hugh loved to watch John Wayne and "It's a Wonderful Life", going for walks, driving to Airport Beach and talking to people while they launched their boats.  He loved to spend time with and help his children and grandchildren. Hugh was everything you could ask for in a grandpa.

Hugh and Roberta would take Sunday drives on back roads looking for old vehicles that he could tow home.

Hugh is predeceased by his parents Norman and Myrtle and his son Peter (May of 1995).  He is survived by his wife of 53 plus years, Roberta, children; Mark (Chantel) and Cheryl, grandchildren; Zachariah, Ashley (Dallon), Emily, Rachel and Thomas, brother; Donald (Sue) and sister; Lynne Dempsey, nieces and nephews; Don (Thomas, Bowen and Brittany), Mathew (Letisha (Noah, Hunter), Joshua, and Jasmine), Cassandra and Katherine, James and Richard.

The family would like to Thank Dr. Susan Hunter and the staff at both Ocean View and Eagle View for their wonderful care of Hugh.

Hugh is now sleeping in the arms of Jesus.
