Harry Kerr Obituary

With his beloved Molly, tenderly holding his hand, Harry set sail one final time through the Discovery Passage, passing peacefully beneath the soft glow of morning. In his quiet departure, he left behind a wake of cherished memories and love that will continue to ripple through the lives he touched.

Harry is lovingly remembered by his children Lauri, Jim (Doris), and Bob; his 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and is held dearly in the hearts of all who knew him. He now joins his daughter Heather, parents Percy and Marjorie, brothers Joe and George in peaceful rest.

Born in the small mining town of Bralorne, BC — now a ghost town, but once a place full of life and promise — Harry began his journey in the mountains before turning his heart to the sea. A true captain in every sense, he was an explorer of the ocean, the earth, and the soul.

As a young man, Harry began his career as a mechanic with the Vancouver Fire Department. But he was never content with the ordinary. Driven by curiosity and love, he turned the everyday into the extraordinary. He cruised the coast in Curtsy, the 42-foot sailboat he built in Richmond; created God’s Pocket, a floating resort that welcomed fishermen, divers, and dreamers alike; coasted across the ocean in Molly B; zipped around in a zodiac; and journeyed across Canada and the United States in the Moho.

Through every chapter, he was never alone. At his side was Molly, his adventure partner, soulmate, and First Mate. Their journey was one of discovery and devotion — building, exploring, laughing, and weathering life’s seas together.

Harry had a gift for creating joy: covert candy aisle missions with the grandkids, camping trips to Miracle Beach, golf (often of the mini variety) games, and indulgent ice cream stops. Each moment was infused with his signature mix of warmth and mischief.  He never ceased to see the beauty in the overlooked.  Impromptu rockhounding excursions paired with his care and attention turned ordinary stones into art.

A loyal friend he always welcomed in the company of his peers and held a special place for  his four-legged companions.

The dawn of 2025 has brought stormy seas, as Harry’s family finds itself adrift in the absence of their beloved Captain. Yet amid the tempest, they have been buoyed by the unwavering kindness and quiet strength of those who stood beside them. With hearts full of gratitude, they offer thanks to Uncle Tony and Aunty Moe, to Dagmar and Wayne, and to the devoted doctors and nurses of Campbell River Hospital — each a steady light in the darkness, guiding them gently through the tides of this journey.

“It’s okay, I’ve lived a good life,” Harry said — not just a farewell, but a love letter to Molly, a passing of the helm to his First Mate. His was a life well-lived, a voyage well-sailed.  Because if there’s one thing we know for certain: a true captain is never far from his crew, you can never come between a captain and his First Mate, and if all else fails you can always “Go Meet Somebody”.

Fair winds and following seas, Harry. May your compass always be pointed to our love.
