The family of Gunter Alfred Gustav Herfert of Nanaimo BC, with deep sorrow, announce his passing on September 6, 2025 at the age of 91.
Gunter will be lovingly remembered by his wife Helga, son Gary (Jane), his daughter Jeanette (Larry), his two grandchildren Jenipher, and Harrison and one great granddaughter Scarlett.
He will be fondly remembered by his sisters Ruth, Moni and Christa, brother Peter(Irma) as well as many nieces and nephews and friends.
He was born August 17 1934 in Berlin. He immigrated to Winnipeg, Mb in 1953 where he met and married his wife of 68 years, Helga.
Gunter was an accomplished butcher, and together with his wife, they owned and operated the German Canadian Meat Market from 1967-1974.
They spent their summers in Manitoba boating and fishing and their winters, cross country skiing. Their cottage was always full with family and friends.
Over the years Gunter and Helga travelled extensively, but their favorite spot was always Hawaii.
In 1987 they moved to Nanaimo where he was a very active member of the German Society of Nanaimo.

A Celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, October 1st from 3-5 pm at the Family home.
