Gordon Crouch Obituary

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Gordie Crouch on February 25 at the age of 81.

Gord was born and raised in Vancouver where he met Dorothy, his wife of 57 years.  Gordie and Dorothy lived briefly in Trail and Terrace until the early 1970’s when they settled in Nanaimo to raise their family.

Gord truly believed in giving back to his community.  His passion for community service led him to volunteer his time for many service clubs, including the Kinsmen where he served and dedicated his time for more than 15 years.  Gord was always willing to give his time to community events such as the Summer Games and the VIEx. Gord also played a leading physical and organizational role in many community projects including the creation of the Beban Participark.  Gord was recognized for his long-time service and outstanding leadership and was bestowed a life membership with the association of Kinsmen Clubs in 1981.

Gord was a dedicated blood donor throughout his life and was proud to become the 30th successful unrelated bone marrow donor in Canada in 1989 when the bone marrow transplant program was first introduced as a pilot project.  Gord was later honoured by the Red Cross for his generosity and commitment to his fellow man and had the privilege of meeting his bone marrow recipient.

Gord lived a full life; enjoyed a variety of sports and had a sharp sense of humour.  He genuinely had an adventurous spirit and twice participated in the Great International Bathtub Race between Nanaimo and Kitsilano Beach in Vancouver.  Throughout his life Gordie had a wide circle of friends who he enjoyed spending time with; often sharing a laugh along with a few beers.  There is no doubt he was proud of his family and thoroughly enjoyed being a grandpa to his 4 grandchildren. His friends and family will remember that Gord lived his life with generosity, purpose, and optimism.

Gord is survived by his wife Dorothy; daughters Sonia (Bryan) and Stacy; grandchildren Emma, Megan, Mackenzie and Ty.  A celebration of life for family and friends will be held on June 8th at 2787 Northwest Bay Rd, Nanoose Bay from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm to say goodbye and honor Gord’s life.
