Gerald Jack Miles Unger

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Gerald’s passing on June 8, 2025, at the age of 69 at his home in Black Creek, BC.

Gerald (Gerry) was born in Comox on Nov. 5, 1955. He was predeceased by his parents, Wels and Mary Unger(nee Hautaluoma); and his brother Marvin Unger. Gerry worked in many locations over his lifetime with his Power Engineer trade. Some jobs included a Tahsis mine, Fletchers Foods, Burnaby hospital, BC Packers in Steveston, and the last was many years at VersaCold in Richmond.

Gerry had a very strong work ethic and was rarely out of work in spite of many of his worksite’s closing down. He was teasingly called ‘the closer’ by his friends at VersaCold. Working and the friends he had at those sites he greatly valued.

Gerry lived most of his life in Richmond before moving to Black Creek in 2023. He enjoyed hiking, fishing and camping with friends and family.

Gerry is survived by his siblings Marilyn, Greg (MaryAnn), Cheryl, and Elaine Smith (Mike); and niece Jenna Smith and nephew Justin Smith.

Gerry was a gentle kind soul, and we will miss him always.
