Georgie Harris Obituary

Georgie Louisa Harris (Nichol) aged 93, passed away peacefully December 17, 2025 in Courtenay, B.C.

Georgie was born January 31, 1932 in Charlottetown, P.E.I to Clarence and Minnie Nichol. She grew up with her four sisters outside of Charlottetown on a farm but later in her youth lived for parts of her school year with her Grandmother Sarah.

Georgie met her future husband, Harry, on a blind date, at a military dance in Summerside P.E.I. After lengthy correspondence, Georgie travelled across Canada, by train to marry Harry on August 22, 1951, in Vancouver B.C. Days after their wedding, Harry and Georgie packed up their small car and headed up the Fraser Canyon to their first teaching post at Pavillion, B.C. Georgie adjusted well to isolation and happily became involved in the community. She talked about sending a list of names of the students to Woodwards for Christmas gifts, which were delivered by train.

In 1953 they decided to move to the Comox Valley and that’s where they lived most of their lives, including raising their two children Gordon and Sharon. Georgie had a strong faith and lived her life opening her home to many for dinners and helping newcomers to get settled. She attended St. John the Divine Anglican church in Courtenay and was active in many areas of church life including the choir where she sang for 70 years. Always a great hostess, Georgie provided many dinner parties for friends and in support of Harry’s political activities.

She may be remembered as having worked at Graham Jewelers in Courtenay and later in Comox over a period of at least 20 years. Georgie had a wide range of interests. She was fond of bridge, gardening, sewing, and knitting. She was very accomplished at knitting and produced many a sweater, bonnet and booties for the arrival of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Georgie also enjoyed making stained glass, outfitting each room of her house with light fixtures and a front door panel. Georgie was predeceased by her husband Harry, and sisters, Carol, Dorothy and Frances.

She is survived by her son, Gordon (Lois) and daughter, Sharon (Prosper) and sister Marion. She also leaves behind to fondly remember their Nan and GG, grandchildren Sarah, Elizabeth, Anna, Emily and Alley as well as great grandchildren Zane, Minmi, Eowyn, Ean, Romeo, Molly, Quinton, Erik, Monroe, Liam and Birklee.

A special thanks is given to her family Doctor, Dr. Falk, all the care aides and staff from VIHA, as well as all the staff at the Comox Valley Hospital. Their care was above and beyond! One additional thanks should be given to Georgie’s niece Beverly and husband Roy who spent many hours visiting and comforting my mother throughout the years and right to the end.

A Celebration of Life will be held in April at the St. John’s Anglican Church in Courtenay, B.C.
