George Alfred Walsh, 83 of Port Hardy, BC, born on December 9th 1938 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia left us to join his wife Merriel Densmore Walsh on March 5th 2022.
George leaves behind his daughter Lisa Walsh Luongo, son-in-law Ralph, grandchildren Nicholas and Olivia, sister Elin Paterson, nieces Becky (m. Kenny), Nikki, Erika and many grand nieces and nephews.
George attended Kings College Private School in Nova Scotia, then went onto studies in Geology at Dalhousie University. The Geology field sent him travelling to many places in Canada including Ontario, the Yukon and finally Port Hardy, BC.
While in Nova Scotia he met his wife of 57 years and together they moved to Toronto where they had a baby girl. They travelled as a family coast to coast until they planted themselves in Port Hardy in 1972.
Although Geology and the Copper Mine brought George to Port Hardy, his passion for fishing sent him to sea in his commercial fish boat Cilla. He was also a shop owner and worked for the school district a couple of times ending his working days as a support worker at PHSS.
When George was not working you could find him tying flies, camping and on any river that had trout, steelhead or salmon. George will now be on a river fly fishing with Merriel sitting close by on a blanket reading a good book. You will be truly missed by all the people you touched in your life.
A celebration of George's life will be held on June 21st 2022 in the Sa'gumba Room in the Kwa'lilas Hotel from 2 - 4pm. We ask you to join his family to reminisce about the wonderful life of George. Following will be a scattering of his ashes on the river near Rupert Arm.
