Frederick Elro Cann, affectionately known as Kris, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026. Born in Montreal, QC, Canada, on April 1, 1948, Kris was a creative and talented soul who found joy in capturing the world through the lens of his camera. Over his lifetime, he used his gift to not only view the world but to share his unique perspective with others. His humor, his love for life, and his unwavering dedication to his family made him a beacon of light to all who knew him.
Kris began his career as a photographer, a profession that allowed him to artistically express himself and leave a lasting impact on his community. He retired from Peacock Copy and Restoration in Duncan, BC, in 2021, after decades of dedicated service. One of his proudest achievements was co-founding the Western Academy of Photography with his good friend Mike Gluss, a testament to his dedication and love for the art. Despite his numerous professional accomplishments, Kris was also a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved to cook for his friends and savor a good glass of wine. His dishes, much like his photography, were a labor of love and an expression of his creativity.
At the core of Kris's life was his deep love for his family. He was a loving husband to Renee Desautels and a dedicated father to Rebecca, Patrick, Gabriel, Sarah, and Rachael. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elro and Violet Cann. As the American author James A. Baldwin once wrote, "Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them." Kris left a legacy of love, creativity, and dedication that will continue to live on through his children.
As we remember and celebrate Kris's life, we invite you to share your memories and upload photos to his memorial page. Each memory shared will serve as a reminder of the unique and wonderful man that he was. His laughter, his creativity, his loving nature - these are the things that will keep his spirit alive in our hearts.
