Florence "Joan" (Robinson) Seggie

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Florence “Joan” Seggie at the age of 89. Joan passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Monday, May 23, 2022, at Glacier View Lodge in Courtenay, BC.

Joan was born into a large family in Saskatoon. She was fond of telling stories about her childhood, including the way all the children slept four to a bed. Joan was predeceased by her sisters, Marion, Millie, Eleanore, and Gladys, and her brothers, Jim, John, Tommy, and Bob.

As a young woman, Joan moved to Burnaby, where she met and subsequently married the love of her life, James “Jim” Seggie. They had two children, Heather and Kenny, and in 1972, they moved to Coquitlam. Joan adored the beautiful garden that Jim planted at their Coquitlam home, and she used the flowers to make dried flower arrangements and wall hangings that she sold at craft fairs. Joan and Jim were loved by all the neighborhood children. The couple also enjoyed travel, music, and Scottish country dancing. Jim passed away in 1997, and Joan lived in the family home with her sister, Niki, until 2017, when the sisters moved to Comox. In 2019, Joan moved into Glacier View Lodge.

Joan was known for her sense of humor, cracking jokes right until the end of her life. She amazed us, living with Alzheimer’s for fourteen years. Throughout that journey, she remained loving, kind, funny, and generous.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Glacier View Lodge for the wonderful care and friendships extended to Joan during her three-year stay.

Joan will be lovingly missed by her daughter Heather (Jeff), son Kenny (Janine), grandchildren Jillian and James, sisters Niki and Lil, and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a gathering to share memories and celebrate Joan’s life (date TBA). If desired, donations can be made in Joan’s honour to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or Glacier View Lodge.
