Ernest Lorne Kaesmodel passed away on February 26, 2026, surrounded by his much-loved family. Ernie leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, craftsmanship, kindness, and deep commitment to community. Ernie is predeceased by his father Kurt Kaesmodel, his mother Rita Paulson, and his wife Joan. He is survived by his daughters Krista Kitchener (Kevin) and Jenny Taylor (Tim); granddaughters Hunter (Carlos) and Abby; grandsons Dawson, Jaxon, and Blake; and by Connie, his partner in life and dance. Ernie believed deeply in the importance of preserving everyday stories. He was a long-time member and foundational contributor to the Prince George Oral History group where his dedication helped ensure that the voices and memories of Northern British Columbia residents were recorded and preserved for future generations. Creativity and care defined much of Ernie’s life. A skilled and patient woodworker, he found joy in shaping wood by hand, creating practical and meaningful pieces that reflected his quiet pride in craftsmanship and problem-solving. His workshop was a place of focus, calm, and satisfaction. Ernie also had a deep affection for his many dogs, who were constant companions and a daily source of comfort, routine, and joy. Walks, quiet time, and the simple presence of a loyal dog were among his greatest pleasures. An avid outdoorsman, Ernie loved skiing returning season after season to the slopes. In later years, he found equal happiness in round dancing a passion he shared wholeheartedly with Connie and which brought music movement and connection into his daily life. Ernie will be remembered as a thoughtful listener, a maker, a storyteller, and a man who believed that every life every story, and every piece of wood was worth preserving. Celebration of Life Dance will be held at 1-330 on March 14 2026 at Wellington Hall 3922 Corunna Ave Nanaimo BC
