Eileen Houlihan Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beautiful mother Eileen Francis Houlihan who departed this life on Monday, February 9th, 2026 with her family by her side.

She was born on August 14th, 1940 in the small fishing community of Harbour Breton, Newfoundland and came from a large family of 12 children.

Mom was a devoted daughter, a loving spouse, a caring sister and above all a deeply devoted mother, mother in law, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family was the centre of her world and she poured her heart into creating a home filled with great food, warmth, laughter and unconditional love. She always enjoyed a great meal followed by a Newfie kitchen party with guitars and accordions. She loved singing during these get togethers especially songs that reminded her of being home in Newfoundland. These times will never be forgotten.

Throughout her life she was known for her great kindness, strength and generous spirit. She had four children, sons; Ed (Brenda), Jim, John (Blanca) and daughter Colleen (Warren), ten grandchildren: Kaleigh (Nick), Brendan, Carissa, Cole, Riley, Colin, Sydney, Delaney, Marshall and Jack and two great grandchildren; Addison and Jude.

Eileen was pre-deceased by her husband John. They were married for 56 years. He was with the RCMP for 28 years. Mom really enjoyed every new transfer and the opportunity to go some place different and meet new people.

She had the remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed, whether through comforting conversation, a delicious home cooked meal or a simple smile or hug. She touched countless lives in many meaningful ways.

Mom enjoyed looking after her children, cooking, camping, church activities and spring fishing with her husband; until she supposedly cut off the biggest spring he had ever caught. Mom apparently went to net the monster and cut the line off and the fish slowly swam into the depths and got away. The didn't talk for the longest time afterwards. She enjoyed walking and spending time outside.

She found great joy in spending time with family and friends and in life's simple pleasures. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, laughter and unforgettable memories not to mention amazing homecooked meals.

Though she will be deeply missed, her love and legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 20th, at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Parish in Courtenay. Family and friends are invited to attend to help celebrate her life.
