Ed was born on June 7, 1942 to Susan and Jim Ryan in Saskatoon, SK. As a young boy he moved with his mom and sister to Vancouver. He had a long career in computer engineering and then sales with Honeywell, Siemen’s Electric and other companies. Ed was the type of person that loved to be busy so after he retired from the computer industry he decided to take on another career as a car salesman. He was later forced to fully retire due to medical issues.
In 1963 Ed met and soon married Joan Stadel. Together, they raised four children, Trallee, Kristin, Aleta and Chantelle. In 1980 Joan and Ed divorced. In 1981 Ed found his second wife and soul mate in Marilynn ‘Joy’ Hughes and they were married for 25 years before Joy passed away in 2016 of cancer. In 2017 Ed met Guangwei ‘Wei’ Li through online dating and married Wei for companionship into his “Golden Year”, as he would refer to it. In 2020 Ed was hospitalized and from there entered a Seniors care home in Duncan with dementia and was later moved to Ladysmith to be closer to his wife and daughter. In early Feb 2024 Ed had a fall in his bedroom at the care home and broke his hip. After surgery for a hip replacement he was sent back to the care home where he passed on Feb 25 in his sleep.
Ed was predeceased by his mom, Susan Ryan, and sister Shirley Ryan. He is survived by his 4 kids with Joan, Joy’s 3 kids and Wei’s daughter. He has 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
