Donald "Don" Gordon Mason

On Monday, 13 May 2024, Donald Gordon Mason of Courtenay, BC, peacefully passed away at home at the age of 92.

Don was born on 12 April 1932 in Sandwich, ON. Don had a passion for military aviation particularly with his decades of service in the RCAF/Canadian Armed Forces. He enjoyed getting out daily to pick up and read his newspaper and was kindly remembered as the impromptu “Mayor” of the cul-de-sac he lived at with his keen interest in neighborhood news and updates. 

Don was predeceased by his loving wife Alice, his father Carlyle Mason, his mother Lucille Mason, and his brother Darryl Mason. 

He is survived by his son Carlisle (wife Richelle) Mason, stepson Chauncey (wife Nancy) Soderberg, grandchildren Susan Peppiatt, Kendra Soderberg, Kale Soderberg, Dane Soderberg, Chadwick Mason, Veronica Mason, brothers Ian Mason and Randy Mason, sister Malorie Matte and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

As per Don’s wishes there will be no funeral service and his remains will be placed in the scattering garden to be united again with his beloved Alice. A memorial plaque at Courtenay Civic Cemetery, Courtenay BC will mark their place and overlook the remarkable Comox Glacier.
