Dennis Lambert

On May 5, 2020, just three days short of his 94th Birthday, a wonderful and caring man passed away.  His big heart had finally failed and he passed peacefully at home surrounded by love. Dennis Lambert was born in Transcona, Manitoba on May 8, 1926 to Elizabeth Ann Lambert (nee Martin) and Gordon Lambert.

Dennis worked hard his entire life. He was always humble as he remembered the “feast or famine” years of the Depression. His family moved to the West Coast when Dennis was nine years old. Together with his Mom, Dennis maintained the family farm on Quesnell Lake in Yellow Point while his older brother Osborne and his Father fought in WWII.  As a Ranger, Dennis also helped protect our homeland. Dennis both knew and respected the land, and he witched many successful water wells for friends and neighbors.

Dennis was extremely bright and had an amazing mechanical aptitude. Although he did not have the luxury of a formal education, Dennis could fix or build anything. This led him to work as a mechanic in Ladysmith and Nanaimo, and he later worked at Harmac for almost 36 years.  He met Rosalyn Stephens at the local roller rink. No doubt he was impressive doing his famous back flips on roller skates!! Dennis and Rosalyn married on May 6,1950.  Together, Dennis and Rosalyn had five children, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. They also enjoyed numerous nieces and nephews on both the Lambert and Stephens’ side of the family.

One of Dennis’ favorite activities was spending time with his late son Douglas Stephen Lambert who sadly passed away on September 22, 2003 at the age of 51. Dennis always said that Doug was the “giver” and they both spent many hours helping others with various projects.  They also enjoyed working on Doug’s boat in efforts to get away on the odd, well deserved fishing trip.

Although Dennis always helped others, he did his best to help all of his kids too. As he could weld, he built racecar and boat trailers, fixed horse trailers and built the bumpers that pulled those trailers. With his big heart and strong desire to help others, Dennis was also generous to a fault. Unfortunately, in his later life, Dennis painfully realized that,

“Some people are not loyal to you; they are loyal to the need of you. Once their needs change, so does their loyalty”.

Thus, in his final years, Dennis found safe havens with, and was lovingly cared for by daughters Carol (Wayne), and Rhodie (Bill), and enjoyed many visits from Grand-daughter Leah (Andrew), and Great-grandson Benson.  

Dad, a.k.a. “Denny” and/or “Boy”, you are sadly missed and will always be in our hearts.
