Having lived life to the fullest; working hard and playing hard, our beloved Claes Lennart Petri went to be with his LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ on May 6th, 2025.
Born February 11th, 1950, in Helsingborg Sweden, Claes moved to Powell River BC at the age of six with his family and is predeceased by his older sister Eva, beloved mother Marianne, father Per Magnus and older brother Per Petri.
Growing up on the beautiful coastline of Malaspina Strait, Claes cultivated many skills and became a master of the sea. From the beginning of the 101 Highway at Lund, BC to Ecuador South America his life was filled with many incredible people and adventures. In his youth he was the goal tender for the Powell River soccer team that travelled to the mainland to compete and win the Provincial Sun Cup! He loved auto mechanics and all that went with that from repairing racing and repairing again. Actually, there was nothing he couldn’t fix: he said many times “if it was made by man, it should be able to be fixed my man.”
Moving his young family to the rural area of Black Point he was part of the Malaspina Volunteer Fire Department and for twenty (20) years served his community as Captain of the Rescue team. He had a vision of owning his own shop and SOUTHSIDE SERVICES was born and again he served people. He also worked diligently and was part of the forest and transportation industry and more recently was a bus driver for First Students Canada caring for very important cargo: school children. He was a risk taker yet very sensible and most of his life he had a love and respect for the sea. In 2009 and for the next ten (10) years sailed along with his first mate Lue down the Pacific Coast from Comox to Ecuador South America. For more information google Sailing Our Dream S/V Whiteshell ll on http://blogspot.ca. Or call his first mate and she will guide you to it……it’s a great read.
Claes will be so missed by his family: Loving and devoted wife, Louise (Lue) Petri, daughter Tanya (Greg Newman), daughter Crista and son Ryan Petri (Elisa Mowbray) grandchildren Bradon (Nikki) and Jacob Budgell, Cole and Annika Newman, Brody (Nikki) and Matt Boese, Angus, Stella, Patsy and Kaytlin Petri, Lucas, Mateo, Nicolas, and Markos Lekakis along with younger brothers Rob(Corey) Petri and Rodrick Lofgren, numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews and friends. There was nothing more important to Claes then his family……and he was so proud of all of you!!!! He treasured friendships and relationships and said if you can count your true friends on one hand you are doing well! Well done Claes!
Please join us as we celebrate the life of this incredible man, husband, father, grandfather, and friend on June 7th, 2025, 2pm at the Central Evangelical Free Church located at 765 Mc Phee Avenue Courtenay, BC
