Charles Adey Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Charles David Adey, whom we loved dearly, on February 8th, 2025, at the age of 86.

Dave was born on October 12th, 1938, in Powell River, BC to Frank and Betty Adey. He is predeceased by his sisters: Ann, Joan, and Lorna as well as his brother Ken. Linda Lefley remains as his surviving sister.

In 1963 Dave married Gayle, the love of his life. Dave was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and is survived by his wife Gayle, daughter Jayne (Mark), son Frank (Linda), grandchildren Samantha, Mikayla, Brandon, and step-grandchildren: (Christine), (Ashton), and step-great grandchild (Olivia).

With an early life spent travelling between Dawson Creek, Salmon Arm, and the Comox Valley, by 1959, Dave finally settled in Merville, BC, Vancouver Island. Though his love of Merville never stopped Dave and Gayle from enjoying many trips around the world together in their 61 years of marriage.

Dave was an exceptional forester and farmed at Adey’s Acres on Williams Beach Road. Dave loved making trails through the forest and working on the farm, he was working actively until the spring of 2024. One of his life’s highlights was frequenting the CC Auction Barn on Saturdays. He also enjoyed playing and coaching hockey as well as baseball. With a renowned sense of humour to people familiar with Dave, you knew if he liked you, he would tease you.

Thank you to Dr. Bakshi, Dr. Wainberg and all the staff at North Island Hospital for all their above and beyond care and compassion over these past 10 months.

By request there will be no service. However, those who wish to honour his memory may consider making a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation BC, or to a charity of your choice.
