Bill Boreham Obituary

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Boreham, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to so many.

Bill was predeceased by his parents Frank and Ettie, his cherished bride of 54 wonderful years, Maxine, on Aug 11, 2010, daughter Sharon, April 29, 2005, brothers Jack in 2002 and Bob in 1999.

Bill is survived by son David and daughters Julie (Dan), Maureen (Kevin), Linda (Roland), seven loving grandchildren; Jason, Monika, Natashia, Katelyn, Marissa, Sydney, Gaelan, along with great-grandchildren Kai and sister Aleah.

Bill was born in Fort William, Ontario, and moved to Vancouver with his parents in 1936. After high school, he attended studies at the University of Portland, where he met Maxine. After a brief courtship, they were married in May 1956, followed by a short stay in Port Alberni and then back to Richmond to raise a family. Bill had a 30-year long career with Oppenheimer Bros. Foods Services, retiring as a sales manager at the age of 56. Health concerns and the introduction of computers compelled his transition and retirement to Vancouver Island life. Bill and Maxine had a house built in Crofton, and Bill tested his woodcraft by making a plywood pleasure boat, the Wee Willie. Many hours of fun were had to explore the waters off Crofton. Bill spent many hours with the Canadian Power Squadron, first as a student and then as an instructor. Bill's passion for board games ranged from chess to Sequence and Mah Jongg, displaying a sharp mind and a love for teaching his current game of choice.

Bill was a devoutly religious man, and wherever he lived, he became involved with his local parish. The church, with its customs and beliefs, gave him strength and purpose. He valued the kinship of the church and made many lifelong friends in the fellowship of Christ.

He was so loved and will be missed by so many.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 9735 Elm St, Chemainus, BC, February 1st at 1:00 PM. Interment following at the Chemainus Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Chemainus Seniors Center 3:00 to 5:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, please make any donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Canadian Diabetes Association in Bill’s name.
