As well his family in England, brother Doug and his wife Sue, his sister-in-law Nan (Terry) and their daughters; Jo and her husband Dave and Liz and her husband Reg and all his nieces and nephews. Allan was born and raised in London, England where he was a Mechanic trainee in the Royal Air Forces. Upon his discharge, he continued his passion for mechanical work, working as a fitter and in the engineering department at various companies until June of 1957. It was then he and then wife, Jean, along with his childhood friend Bill and wife Barb decided to take the biggest adventure of all and move to Canada. Once they got settled in St. Albert, AB, they began building their life together and raising three children as Al continued his mechanics training and eventually working at Waterloo Ford for over 30 years. Upon retiring at the age of 65, Al packed up and moved one last time to Chemainus, BC. No matter where he lived, Al always lived out his days, exploring and living life to the fullest. As the closet people in his life would agree, next to his family, there was nothing Al loved more than is Miata, Ford F-150 and of course a cold beer and fish and chips. He didn’t let anything stop him, not even 3 hip replacements. From fishing, sailing, going out dancing with his dear friend Ellie, traveling back to Alberta and England, going on cruises and spending many days having meals with friends at the Legion and Bonnie Martin, he was always up for anything.
Al leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love and dedication that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will always be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart and unwavering love for his friends and family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Nanaimo Regional Hospital and their palliative care unit for their dedicated care and support in the days following up to Allan’s passing.
A celebration of life will be at 1:00 pm, on October 5th, 2024, at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 191 in Chemainus, BC.
You will be forever missed, Jellybean Grandpa.
