Signhild Marie Olsson

February 8, 1925 – June 12, 2019

Signhild Marie passed away peacefully at Cumberland Lodge, Cumberland BC.

Born in Alesund, Norway, she and her family immigrated to Canada, by ship in 1948, during that voyage met her future husband, Johnny Olsson, a union of 53 years. They married and lived in Vancouver raising their family before relocating to Union Bay BC in 1977. Mom loved her home “on the ocean” viewing “her heron on the rock” and the soaring eagles; travelling the world with Johnny and re-visiting their birthplace, Norway. Weaving, spinning and knitting were her passion for 43 years, selling at the Filberg Festival and throughout the Island. Signhild also loved walking her neighbourhood “to keep fit” she would say, even with a walker and her limited vision. For many years she met with friends at The Woolgatherers, The Royston Crib Club and was a lifetime member of 65 years with Sons of Norway. Her delicious Norwegian recipes were taught to her family to carry on her traditions. She was a compassionate person putting others before herself; faith, family and friends helped her through lifes’ challenges.

Family was everything to her and she showed love and kindness every day. Signhild is survived by: Stephen (Noralee), Karin (Ed) Valeri,Cynthia Davies, grandsons, Jeff (Tammy), Jon (Khori), Niklas (Jordan) Valeri, Jay (Lyndsey) Valeri, 4 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life will be on Wednesday, July 3 at Little Red Church 2182 Comox Ave., Comox, from 2-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Signhilds’ memory to: Sons of Norway North Star Lodge #63, 5216 Arbor Crescent, Nanaimo, BC. V9T 6E5 (Bursary Fund).
