Robin Chemago Obituary

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Robin Chemago of Port Alice, BC formerly from Edmonton, AB.

Left to cherish his loving memory is his wife Edith; his sons Richard (Pat) and David (Leanne); grandchildren Robyn, Lindsay, William, Matthew, Katelynn and Dylan; sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Fred Hays; nephews Stephen, Christopher and Tim; numerous friends in Winnipeg, Edmonton and Port Alice.

Born in Edmonton, AB on March 28th,1945 , Robin was the first child of Peter and Marjorie Chemago, with sister Catherine to follow. Shortly after his arrival, the family moved to Winnipeg, MB then returned to Edmonton when Robin was 11 years of age. He remained in Edmonton, with a stop in Beaumont  , AB until Robin and Edith moved to Port Alice in 2010.

In his young adult life, Robin was busy studying and graduated from the University of Alberta (B.Sc  and a B.Ed) while raising 2 young sons with Barbara. He would spend every spare moment enjoying his outdoor pursuits and creating adventure where there wasn’t any. In amongst all this Robin excelled at becoming a well respected and loved science teacher. Many past students could regale you with stories of fish swimming, snakes crawling and birds flying in the classroom as Robin shared his passion for nature and let it be the teacher. It bears mentioning that some students were lucky enough to follow him on school trips to the High Arctic. To the benefit of those around him, be it family, friends or students,  his passion had no boundaries.

In his late 30’s Robin suffered an ironic twist of fate when a hunting accident changed his life as he knew it. This is where his legacy truly begins. It is a story of never giving up, of digging just that much deeper and finding the strength to greet each day despite the challenges that laid before him.  He was always quick to respond with laughter- and what a laugh it was, leaving you with a warm heart. If he could, he would give more than he would take. Robin was heroic in his effort to live with ease in the physical realm. Thankfully his generous spirit, love, kindness, silly jokes, pranks and mischievous nature remained fully intact. He even stayed true to his beloved Winnipeg Blue Bombers!

A love story began 18 years ago when Robin met Edith. They married on February 14th, 2002 and resided in Beaumont before moving to Port Alice in 2010- a community they both loved and cherished. Marriage may have united them as husband and wife but Edith truly was Robin’s angel. Her devoted care and attention to Robin was and remains a true expression of love beyond words or emotion.

You will be greatly missed Dear Robin- we lift a glass of scotch to you as you journey on to your next adventure. Little doubt it will be epic. With much love, we wish you peace.

At Robin’s request, there will be no formal service and cremation has taken place with internment to follow in Winnipeg at a later date.
